What is Radial Artery?

All arteries have a pulse, but it's easier to palpate (feel) the pulse or heartbeat at certain locations. it's easier to feel the pulse or heart beat when the artery is near the surface of the skin and when there's firm tissue (such as a bone) beneath the artery. The three commonest sites are the radial (wrist), carotid (throat), and brachial

The area that you choose to check the pulse may vary depending upon the condition of the patient.

The most commonly used is Radial pulse (wrist area).

The radial pulse (the pulse is taken using radial artery) is taken at a point where the radial artery crosses the bones of the wrist. When the patient’s hand is turned so that the palm is facing up, the radial pulse is taken on the thumb side of the top side of the wrist.

  You would need to apply to medical school then to an Ob-gyn residency. I have met a few nurses that have done just that, RN to MD but not from CNM to MD. But if you want to do surgery then that is the way to go. The midwives that were in my practice did a lot of office gyn (Well Woman Care) but had no interest in surgery. If you are already a midwife why would you want to spend 8 more years relearning many of the things you already know?
